Getting Your Foodservice Business Ready for Thanksgiving

With the Canadian Thanksgiving holiday right around the corner, you might be planning for a boost in business and additional patrons. Whether you own your own restaurant or operate a catering company, Thanksgiving can certainly be a big holiday, so the team from Zanduco Restaurant Equipment & Supplies wanted to share some pointers with you to help make it a success.

Here are a few commercial food service resources for those keeping their doors open for the holiday this year!

Finding a Good Roast Pan

Thanksgiving is all about the turkey, right? Well, if you plan on cooking yours traditionally by roasting it, then you’ll require the perfect roasting pan. Roast pans come in a variety of different shapes and sizes and the right one for you will depend upon your needs, as well as the size of your turkey. Some of our best sellers include the Vollrath 42-Quart Wear-Ever Aluminum Roast Pan and Aluminum Double-Roast Pan with Straps.

How to Cook a Turkey

If you’re adding stuffing to your turkey (which we highly recommend) it’s important to warm it up and ensure it’s moist before stuffing it into your turkey. Pack the stuffing inside just before you place your turkey in the oven and be sure to use 3/4 cups of stuffing for every pound of turkey. Add a meat thermometer to the thigh of your turkey and into the stuffing: both should be 165 Fahrenheit to be safe to eat.

It’s important to note that for a stuffed turkey, you’ll need to cook it at least an hour longer than the time recommended for an unstuffed turkey.

Other Alternatives for Thanksgiving Dinner

If you want to get a bit more creative for your Thanksgiving offerings, there’s no better way than deep-frying a turkey. Before dropping it into the pot, be sure that your turkey is completely thawed to avoid oil from spilling over when it interacts with water. Brining your turkey beforehand is a great way to ensure it has a tasty, flavorful skin when you pull your turkey out of the fryer.

Like above, your turkey needs to reach an internal temperature of 165 F in order to be done. During the frying of your turkey, be sure that the oil you use (peanut oil or other oil with a smoke point higher than 450 F) remains a steady 350 F throughout.
